On Saturday night, Flux Babe Megan Stewart was crowned Miss Spalding and the Fens. Here, she talks about the day she became a beauty queen.
“I arrived in Spalding at 11am on Saturday – with no make up and ready to learn the choreography for the personality and sports rounds. After getting to know the other girls, we started rehearsing with Miss England 2008/9 Laura Coleman at about 1pm, going over our routines for about two hours before gradually geting our hair and make up done. I was so nervous throughout the day, but the girls were all in the same boat and we all got on really well.
“I decided that, at the end of the day, I was there to enjoy the experience and certainly gain a lot from it even if I didn’t win. We were finally ready for the competition to begin and, at about 4.30pm, we all had personal interviews with the judges (only two minutes each) and then continued preparing ourselves for the final moment.

“At 6.30pm the guests started to arrive and we all nervously gathered in the back doing last minute touches and running over the first round in our heads. The first round was an outfit of our choice, in which we had to do a routine dance and then individually answer ‘why we had chosen our outift’, introduce ourselves and say where we lived.
“Round two was the sportswear round, where we all did a slow jog before breaking into a small sports workout in crop-tops and small shorts. Again, we were called on and introduced with the names of our sponsors, in my case Adrian Flux Insurance.
“On to round three, which was the evening wear – an elegant round and the final BIG question. This was the most nervous I’d been all day – my legs were literally shaking and trying to smile was difficult as all the girls thought hard about ehat to say. It was the question everyone had been preparing for all day, yet I still didn’t have my answer to ‘why do you feel you would make a great Miss England?’set in stone.
“Well, I knew I wanted it, I knew that if I could win Miss England I would be living my dream. So I just got up on stage and spoke my mind – how I wanted to live the lifestyle, to travel, model, be a good role model and to be able to make a difference. I said: ‘I want it all but with a Megan twist on things.’
“After the announcement of Miss Charity, Miss Congeniality, Miss Popularity and the runner up (none of whom was me!), I must admit that my smile dropped and my heart was beating so fast as the announcement came: ‘And the winner is…’
“The room went silent and I was petrified. I could see my family and friends all gripping on to each other in hope. Finally, when they announced my name I couldn’t keep the grin from my face. I ran down the stairs, hands over my face, shocked and so amazingly proud of myself. I collected my sash, tiara and a massive bouquet of flowers from Laura, and heard my friends and family cheer in excitement. I had been crowned Miss Spalding and the Fens 2011 and it felt amazing!
“So, as an official Miss England semi finalist I now proceed to the next round on June 13 to compete against the likes of Miss Peterborough and Miss Coventry. Although I am still in shock about winning my new title I can’t wait to meet the other girls and do it all over again. I really hope I have the same amount of support from the locals, online community and my friends and family.”
