How it feels to be a beauty queen

17 May
On Saturday night, Flux Babe Megan Stewart was crowned Miss Spalding and the Fens. Here, she talks about the day she became a beauty queen.

“I arrived in Spalding at 11am on Saturday – with no make up and ready to learn the choreography for the personality and sports rounds. After getting to know the other girls, we started rehearsing with Miss England 2008/9 Laura Coleman at about 1pm, going over our routines for about two hours before gradually geting our hair and make up done. I was so nervous throughout the day, but the girls were all in the same boat and we all got on really well.
“I decided that, at the end of the day, I was there to enjoy the experience and certainly gain a lot from it even if I didn’t win. We were finally ready for the competition to begin and, at about 4.30pm, we all had personal interviews with the judges (only two minutes each) and then continued preparing ourselves for the final moment.

Megan is crowned Miss Spalding and the Fens 2011

“At 6.30pm the guests started to arrive and we all nervously gathered in the back doing last minute touches and running over the first round in our heads. The first round was an outfit of our choice, in which we had to do a routine dance and then individually answer ‘why we had chosen our outift’, introduce ourselves and say where we lived.
“Round two was the sportswear round, where we all did a slow jog before breaking into a small sports workout in crop-tops and small shorts. Again, we were called on and introduced with the names of our sponsors, in my case Adrian Flux Insurance.
“On to round three, which was the evening wear – an elegant round and the final BIG question. This was the most nervous I’d been all day – my legs were literally shaking and trying to smile was difficult as all the girls thought hard about ehat to say. It was the question everyone had been preparing for all day, yet I still didn’t have my answer to ‘why do you feel you would make a great Miss England?’set in stone.
“Well, I knew I wanted it, I knew that if I could win Miss England I would be living my dream. So I just got up on stage and spoke my mind – how I wanted to live the lifestyle, to travel, model, be a good role model and to be able to make a difference. I said: ‘I want it all but with a Megan twist on things.’
“After the announcement of Miss Charity, Miss Congeniality, Miss Popularity and the runner up (none of whom was me!), I must admit that my smile dropped and my heart was beating so fast as the announcement came:  ‘And the winner is…’
“The room went silent and I was petrified. I could see my family and friends all gripping on to each other in hope. Finally, when they announced my name I couldn’t keep the grin from my face. I ran down the stairs, hands over my face, shocked and so amazingly proud of myself. I collected my sash, tiara and a massive bouquet of flowers from Laura, and heard my friends and family cheer in excitement. I had been crowned Miss Spalding and the Fens 2011 and it felt amazing!
“So, as an official Miss England semi finalist I now proceed to the next round on June 13 to compete against the likes of Miss Peterborough and Miss Coventry. Although I am still in shock about winning my new title I can’t wait to meet the other girls and do it all over again. I really hope I have the same amount of support from the locals, online community and my friends and family.”

Andys ride for life UK

14 Apr

Now this weekend i met a very special man, Andrew Gordon. Over the last six years as a patient of the Royal Marsden Andrew’s love and passion for motorcycling has helped him get through the difficult treatment associated with Neuroendocrine cancer.  It has truly helped him through some of the very difficult moments of his life. Now Andrew is to set off on the 20th August on his life long ambition by attempting to ride the approximate 5000 mile journey around the UK coast, with friends and fellow riders joining him on legs and celebrating his ‘Ride for Life’ experience in raising funds towards the fantastic support and care he has had from ‘The Royal Marsden’.

Please help us help Andy in his journey by sponsoring the ride or making a donation to the Royal Marsden Hospital. http://www.andrewsrideout.co.uk/Andrews_Ride_Out/Home.html
We’re truely proud to sponsor this gentleman and wishing you lots of luck and fun on your trip!

ice and diamonds ball

14 Apr

Ok,so i haven’t posted for a while so i hope every ones had a good start to their 2011. Us babes have had allot going on in the past few months with Comic Relief Car washes happening, various car and bike shows as well as obviously working hard in the office. Not only all of this but i have taken part in a 14mile sponsored walk and participated as a ring girl for Bassingbourn barracks on their boxing charity night.

Now at the beginning of this month i was overwhelmed and honoured to be asked to attend and hostess at the Ice and Diamonds ball in aid of the Charity Walking With the Wounded. These brave Servicemen including our very own Prince Harry and four wounded are walking over 200 nautical miles to the North Pole.

To read more about Walking with the Wounded please visit http://www.walkingwiththewounded.org.uk/ . The event was to be held at Battersea power station, now for those of you that don’t know what the station looks like it is basically a rundown, derelict old power station. Now i couldn’t believe it when i saw what the station in the daytime and then the transformation once the evening hit and the guests started to arrive it really was an icy winter wonderland.

Now Attending the event were many familiar faces including George Lamb, Duran Duran, Olly Murs, Yasmin Le bon and many more. Here’s myself and the other girls who attended (from left) Laura Cale, Morgan Whitney, Megan Whitney, Karen Harding, Chloe Ruffell and Myself with Mr Murs himself.

So with the night being all about charity we hosted a raffle as well as two auctions, one of which included the amazing chance to meet the boys at the North Pole on their arrival.Overall plenty was raised for an amazing charity but there’s still plenty more to give so please visit the website and read how to donate as well as follow the boys on their trip, they truly are doing something amazing and well done and good luck to every single one of them!

Honorary Fluxbabe Sarah Bennett Baggs in 24hr Race

08 Apr

Adrian Flux sponsored Sarah Bennett Baggs (who dons a Fluxbabes Style Race suit, which we absolutely love) has very kindly shared some great footage with us of the Silverstone 24 which took place in October last year…

After appalling weather conditions, broken seat belts and a run in with the wall her team crossed the finish line 22nd overall and 13th in their class. You can read Sarah’s own account of the event which includes tips on packing and how to improve your pelvic floor as well as the race report HERE

Well done Sarah!
